RSSBus for SharePoint allows SharePoint users to access a variety of data sources using RSS or Atom feeds, RSSBus Simple Services, and RSSBus Connectors. It includes the RSSBus SharePoint Web Part which can work with Active Directory and other LDAP servers, Exchange and other mail servers, web services, Office applications, CRM systems, etc. RSSBus for SharePoint also includes the RSSBus HTTP Handlers, which allow for creating RSSBus Simple Services, customized RSS feeds and Web Part contents served from SharePoint itself.

The RSSBus SharePoint Web Part and RSSBus Simple Services published within SharePoint can access SharePoint meta-data such as SharePoint Site users, documents, tasks, and other SharePoint Lists, allowing it to integrate information in SharePoint with internal and/or external data sources.

This Web Part templates uses the QuickBooks Connector to search QuickBooks for information about jobs and display that information in a table on your SharePoint site.

This Web Part template displays the results of a standard SQL query without requiring use of the SharePoint Business Data Catalog. To use this Web Part, paste the source into the RSSBus Web Part Source Editor and click apply. In the RSSBus Web Part properties pane, modify the conn and query inputs to refer to your own database.

This Web Part performs a simple query on a sample Oracle database and then displays the results using the MSChart formatter, one of the many feed formatters available with RSSBus.

Q:  What are RSSBus Connectors?

RSSBus Connectors are libraries of data access operations that handle the details of remote data organization and access. You can install RSSBus Connectors directly on your SharePoint server and use them with the RSSBus SharePoint Web Part and/or Simple Services.

Q:  What are RSSBus Simple Services?

RSSBus Simple Services are a kind of Web Service. They are called with normal URLs and they return data as RSS feeds. They can use the same RSSBus Connectors as the Web Part.

Q:  Do I need the RSSBus Server in order to use the RSSBus SharePoint Web Part?

No. You can use the RSSBus SharePoint Web Part in many ways:

  • By itself to call, format, and completely customize the display of existing RSS or Atom feeds.
  • With RSSBus Connectors to access dozens of additional information sources. See the Connector library for a list of available RSSBus Connectors.
  • With RSSBus Server to define and call RSSBus Simple Services.
  • With the optional RSSBus HTTP Handlers feature to create Simple Services inside a SharePoint Document Library.

    RSSBus for SharePoint is now fully integrated with the RSSBus Online Web Part Gallery. Users can now install and configure completely new Web Parts directly from within SharePoint, all with a single click. Add completely new capabilities to SharePoint without increasing IT administration with additional installations.

  • RSSBus for SharePoint Workflow

    This release adds the connectivity and data access capabilities of RSSBus into standard SharePoint Workflows. Updating external systems like Google. SalesForce, MSCRM in response to changes in SharePoint is as simple as picking one of the RSSBus Workflow from our Online Gallery.

  • Enhanced Web Part Editor

    The RSSBus for SharePoint Web Part editor has been updated with syntax highlighting and enhanced editing capabilities. The Web Part editor provides fine grained control over RSSBus Web Parts including connectivity and data visualization within SharePoint.

  • Updated RSSBus Connectors

    This release includes several improvements to our connector library, including:

    • RSSBus SpOps (Operations to work with SharePoint data): these operations now have extensive support for CAML and have undergone several performance improvements. These operations now also take advantage of MOSS specific features where applicable including better search, support for SSO (Single Sign-On), and more.

    • RSSBus FeedOps: the RSSBus FeedOps can now work with results of other operations through standard TSQL queries.     • RSSBus ChartOps: Easily chart data from operations using the new MSChart formatter.

  • Getting Started with RSSBus for SharePoint V3 [BETA 2]

    Working with the new RSSBus for SharePoint is easy. The integrated Sample Templates and and Online Gallery make it easier than ever before to access remote data from SharePoint Portals.

    1. Start by adding the included RSSBus Web Part to your SharePoint Portal Page:
