Using Server Explorer
After Establishing a Connection to the data source, there will be up to three categories listed: Tables, Views, and Services depending on the data provider.
Tables correspond to database tables and support two-way data communication. Views act as traditional database views and Services act as stored procedures.
There is a list of entities within each of these categories. This list is compiled based on the Location connection property value that was specified during the setup of the data source while Establishing a Connection. Services (or stored procedures) constitute all of the .rsb files in that folder, while .rsd files are classified as Views or Tables (i.e., tables) based on whether the data source is read-only or not, respectively.
Views and Tables can further be analyzed from the Server Explorer by expanding the column definitions for each of them. Data can also be queried for tables and views by right clicking on any of them and selecting "Retrieve Data".
The grid containing the data supports updates. For Tables, the data can also be updated within Visual Studio's Server Explorer.
To find out more about Tables, Views, and Stored Procedures, see the Data Model section.
